About

Hi - my name is Joseph Merrill and I'm a fintech generalist / operator / investor in SF and the founder of Strata. Strata is a reviews-based marketplace where doctors can shop for financial products and professional services relevant to their personal and professional lives as clinicians.

Prior to founding Strata, I was the Head of Product and Data at Provide - a lender and financial services provider to doctors and private healthcare practices. I joined in 2015 as one of the first employees, designed and built a number of infrastructure and process components, and grew the company through a variety of roles to a 250+ person organization with a $4B+ practice and commercial real estate portfolio (<15bps loss rate) and $1B+/year loan origination rate. 

Following Series A and B financing rounds (led by QED with participation from Fifth Third Bank, Montage Ventures, and Clocktower Technology Ventures), Provide was acquired by Fifth Third Bank in August 2021. 

Outside of my own projects, I occasionally invest in early stage fintech focused companies with TWIF Angels. 

Beyond fintech, I enjoy skiing, paragliding, free diving / spearfishing, motorcycling, water coloring, building, cooking, gardening, exploring, and taking pictures of all of these adventures. I'm currently learning how to wing foil.
